Drought, famine escalates in Horn of Africa

The Horn of Africa has is currently experiencing an extreme drought. It has left many countries on the brink of a famine that will affect an estimated 11.5 million people, a number which is ever increasing. Many people are forced to flee their homeland and take on a treacherous journey rife with bandits. They each take this journey hoping they will be able to find food and water elsewhere. Approximately 9,000 refugees are arriving weekly at what is being called “the largest refugee camp in the world” in Dadaab, Kenya. People are arriving daily robbed of all their belongings, malnourished and dehydrated. Aid workers in Dadaab are swamped with the influx of people with the UN asking for $500 million more in aid money. As one aid worker put it, “This is the worlds problem.”
